“In the three years since we launched, we’ve helped founders across the globe validate and grow world-changing ideas, provided investment into strong founding teams with exceptional growth prospects, and worked to enable corporations and governments to become a proactive partner to startups in driving the next wave of innovation,” said Donna Harris, 1776 Cofounder and Co-CEO. “These three complementary businesses each need seasoned leadership, and we can think of no one better than Peter to helm our Insights and Intelligence work.”
“With his wealth of experience guiding talented and complex teams, combined with his background in delivering critical intelligence to international influencers, Peter is the consummate leader to drive this key team,” added Evan Burfield, 1776 Cofounder and Co-CEO. “We’ve worked closely with him for years, and we’ve always been impressed with his inventive ideas in the rapidly shifting media landscape that we can’t wait to start applying to the global startup community.”
In his current role, Cherukuri has P&L responsibility for POLITICO’s core news products, as well as its audience revenue streams, including advertising, events and research. He is the founder and President of POLITICO Focus, a subsidiary content studio focused on innovative brand journalism.
Before POLITICO he served as Vice President and General Manager of the Huffington Post’s Washington bureau, managing its operations and revenue following a run as publisher of the original Capitol Hill newspaper, Roll Call. Prior to Roll Call, Cherukuri led marketing and business development for TMG Custom Content, a DC-based agency that develops targeted print and online content for corporations and nonprofits. Earlier in his career he worked in for the National Journal Group and Congressional Quarterly in product development and branding leadership.
Cherukuri graduated from Colgate University and serves on the boards of the National Press Foundation, the West Virginia University School of Journalism and the Close-Up Foundation. He is an active angel investor through Washington, D.C.-based K Street Capital, which he co-founded.
