Washington D.C., March 7, 2014 — Today 1776 announced a partnership with Betamore, a technology and entrepreneurship hub located in Baltimore, MD, to further connect startups across the Capital region with the resources they need to succeed.
Since opening in April 2013, 1776 has become a community for several hundred startups in the DC region. The organization is housed in a historic D.C. building four blocks from the White House, where it offers a collaborative community, an events venue and mentorship programs for hundreds of startups.
Under this new partnership, Betamore will join the Startup Federation, a global network of the world’s top startup hubs, all of which share an exclusive member base of startups with highly scalable products or services. By partnering, 1776 and Betamore will work closely to link the Washington, DC and Baltimore ecosystems to give the region’s most promising entrepreneurs the mentors, industry experts and connections they need to scale.
The partnership will include joint programming, including investor showcases, increasing the network of resources for startups across the capital region. Members will also have access on a limited basis to the partners’ campuses for meetings or short periods of time.
“We are excited to add Betamore to the Startup Federation and create possibilities for collaboration throughout the entire Capital region,” said Donna Harris, co-founder of 1776. “The entire DC, Maryland and Virginia region is awash with talent and partnering with Betamore will allow members from the entire region to tap into that talent.”
“The Federation is the first of its kind to connect the dots between 21st century, founder-focused startup incubators around the world,” said Mike Brenner, CEO and co-founder of Betamore. “Reciprocity memberships are just scratching the surface of the potential this consortium can provide. What I think is going to be a game-changer is the commercialization and partnership opportunities that can develop between our incubator companies.”
1776 is a major initiative focused on helping entrepreneurs seeking to reinvent our lives as citizens. Located just blocks from the White House, 1776 convenes and accelerates startups from around the world by connecting them to the political, intellectual, social and financial capital that make Washington, D.C. unique. Betamore is an award-winning campus for technology and entrepreneurship with a two-fold mission. First, we aim to stimulate the establishment and growth of technology-based startup companies through business collaboration and incubation. Second, and arguably most important, we offer a career-focused education led by current industry experts to a growing public community of learners. Our education aims to fill the gap between a traditional liberal arts education and the demand of 21st century jobs.
